I want to tell you the story of how did I create a 50-FOOT mural in 3 DAYS 😱
The answer: TEAM WORK!
I was commissioned by Paramount to create a mural for Community Day. This is a day where employees give back to the community by doing something meaningful.
So I had to create a colorful design with Nickelodeon characters, that I was going to paint with 45 employees. Almost all of them had never painted a mural before, so this was going to be a fun challenge.
The design was for the Kindergarten area at a school in Wynwood. Here you can see the approved design I created in Adobe Illustrator 👇
After the design was approved, I went to buy all the materials I needed. This has been one of the biggest color palettes I've ever used. Usually, I use approximately 10 to 12 colors, but this time I had to use 16 because of the design and color swatches of the characters that I could not change.
Here you can see how the wall of the school looked originally and how it changed in the process.
After my assistant Mira and I did the background on Day 1, we waited for the employees to arrive early morning on Day 2. They were very excited to paint a mural for the first time.
To make the process easy for everyone, we decided to do it like a giant coloring book. Paint by numbers technique. So every color had a number and each section of the wall had a number too. This way there was no confusion and you just had to fill in the blank.
For me, it was a very special project to paint Sponge Bob again. After working at Nickelodeon for so many years, it was great to be back painting with some of my co-workers that played such an important role in my professional career.
On Day 3, Mira and I went back to the school to finish all the details, like the faces of the characters, sprinkles, and hearts. Also, I had to sign it, right? 🤩
Here you can see the final result 👇
It's amazing to see how colors can bring so much life to a space. I'm sure these kids are going to feel happier and more creative every day.
Thank you Mira for being my partner in crime, and for always having fun while living these artsy adventures together 👩🏻🎨💜👩🏻🎨
Thank you Paramount for letting me be part of this beautiful project 💛
